| Mohamed Adam With his $100,000 Check Stony Brook University |
Adam, 18, was selected to participate in the Dr. Pepper Tuition Giveaway at halftime of the Pac-12 Championship Game between Washington and Oregon at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Adam had 30 seconds to toss as many footballs into a large bin as possible, and displayed uncanny accuracy in defeating his opponent from the University of Florida.
Little did Adam know that he would become the big winner of the event as he walked away from Allegiant Stadium, $100,000 richer.
Adam – who is a freshman, studying political science at Stony Brook — described his life-changing experience with multiple media outlets following the PAC 12 championship.
“It was very nerve-wracking before the game,” Adam said to Newsday. “But I feel very grateful and very blessed to have won this scholarship.”
Over the past 30 years, Dr. Pepper has partnered with the NCAA to give away over $17 million in scholarships for college students during this very popular halftime event.
Stony Brook Vice President of Student Affairs Rick Gatteau also released a statement, saying how proud he was of Adam to participate and win this event.
“We are thrilled that Mohamed was the recipient of the $100,000 prize at last night’s tuition giveaway event,” said Gatteau. “This funding will be instrumental in supporting his educational endeavors. He’s not only an outstanding Stony Brook Seawolf, but clearly has a very accurate throwing arm.”
Despite being the best option Stony Brook has to play at Quarterback this upcoming fall, the 18-year-old plans on using the money that he won to help pay for law school upon receiving his degree in political science from Stony Brook University.
