Smithtown East's Star Shines

Smithtown High School East tennis star Anya Konopka has placed seventh in the state tennis championships.

Konopka won her match 6-0, 6-3 to earn a medal at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens. Earlier this season she earned a county championship. The now two-time county champion is arguably the most decorated female tennis player in Smithtown Central School District history, according to Athletic Director, Jason Lambert.

The St. James native has been on the varsity squad since 7th grade and the left-hander also teaches tennis in the off season.

Colonials Host Coaches vs. Cancer/Score for a Cure

The William Floyd girls’ varsity basketball team, led by head coach Rich Sinclair, recently hosted a “Coaches vs. Cancer/Score for a Cure” game against Riverhead to raise money in the fight against cancer. As part of the initiative, the Colonials also participated in a shoot-a-thon, and through concessions and T-shirt sales, they raised nearly $650 for the American Cancer Society.
