Brookhaven National Laboratory honors three distinguished administrators

The Distinguished Administrator Awards recognize key contributors in the Administrative Support path whose performance and achievements represent outstanding service to the Laboratory. The 2023 recipients are Mary Campbell, Linda Hanlon, and Donna Pfeiffer.

Mary Campbell, an administrative specialist in the Environment, Biology, Nuclear Science & Nonproliferation (EBNN) Directorate, was honored for her 30-year career at the Lab. As a planning and logistics lead for the Quantum XLab event, she positioned Brookhaven as a quantum research leader and adapted seamlessly to a virtual platform during the pandemic. Her expertise in Zoom and Teams supports complex workshops, including those for the BRaVE initiative.

Mary's influence extends Lab-wide, setting high standards for administrative staff in EBNN and mentoring early-career professionals. Leading the EBNN administrators' group, she promotes cross-training and consistency. She also supports United Way, organizes the Pet Calendar, and contributes to the Adopt-a-Family donation program.

Linda Hanlon, an administrative specialist in the Energy & Photon Sciences Directorate, was awarded for her unwavering dedication since starting at Brookhaven National Laboratory in 1979. Beginning as a clerk typist, Linda progressed through various roles. Her pivotal role in the Nonproliferation and National Security Department exemplified her competence. Her move to Energy and Photon Sciences Directorate in 2011 further highlighted her excellence.

Linda has played a crucial role in the success of the United Way Holiday Auction and mentors colleagues to achieve extraordinary results.

Donna Pfeiffer, senior administrative assistant in Operational Support & Planning Division, was honored for her tenure at the Lab. Starting in the 1970s with organizational skills showcased in the Medical Department, she significantly contributed since rejoining in 1998. Notably involved with implementing GIS and FVA programs as well as contributing to Environmental Management System certifications.
