Already full of family fun—from bike trails to baseball, Patchogue’s Shorefront Park will be the home of the community’s first Kite Day, and all ages are invited to let their spirit soar like the wind on Saturday, May 23.
This free event runs from noon to 4 p.m., and vendors will be serving refreshments.
“This is the first annual Kite Day,” said Stephanie Teran, office assistant at the Village of Patchogue Recreation & Parks Department, which is sponsoring the activity. “We’re going to have a DJ, and people can bring their picnic blankets and kites, and there will be a few vendors. Everything will be family friendly.”
Located on Great South Bay, the park promises open space and a “nice wind,” making it the ideal location, she said. Additionally, Shorefront Park offers parking at its Smith Street location in addition to other nearby lots.
The goal is to “bring the community together,” she said. So far, Kite Day is drawing much support with 200 people expressing an interest on social media. Teran herself hopes to attend, perhaps with a kite of her own.
Kite Day is happening as the Recreation & Parks Department gears up for its summer season to include the opening of the Patchogue Beach Club on June 27, Pride Parade on June 13 and Pickleball Tournament on June 13.
“We do programs for all the seasons,” Teran said, as well as luncheons for senior citizens.
The Village of Patchogue website invites residents to, “Enjoy a live DJ while your vibrant kites fill the skill creating the perfect backdrop to relax and spend time with friends and family…unwind and soak up the good vibes.”
Interested vendors can email the village at steran@patchoguevillage.gov. The Suffolk County Police Department also will be in attendance.
