Empire State Development (ESD) announced more than $11 million has been awarded to support over 100 economic development projects through three programs during Round XIV of the Regional Economic Development Council initiative.
Brentwood man indicted for fleeing fatal crash involving motorcyclist
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced today that Manuel Gomez, 46, of Brentwood, has been indicted for Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting and other related charges. Gomez is accused of operating a motor vehicle while his driving privileges in New York State were suspended and subsequently leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in the death of Andres Eloy Khammach La Cruz, 31, also from Brentwood.
Wyandanch man indicted for attempted murder outside Jake's 58 Casino
Nashawn Legros, 24, of Wyandanch, has been indicted for attempted murder, assault, and other related charges following an alleged shooting incident in the parking lot of Jake’s 58 Casino in Islandia. The announcement was made by Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney.
Local school bus driver indicted for possessing child sex abuse material
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced today that Guenther Mayrhofer, 71, of Mastic Beach, a bus driver for the William Floyd School District, has been indicted on charges of Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child. The indictment alleges that Mayrhofer downloaded images and videos of child sexual abuse and uploaded them to his cloud storage account.
Two alleged Bloods gang members indicted for gun trafficking
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced that Caciem Kruer, 26, of Farmingville, and Abdul Muhammad, 23, of Bay Shore, have been charged in a 39-count indictment. This follows a long-term investigation by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and the Suffolk County Police Department into an alleged gun-trafficking operation run by purported gang members in Suffolk County.

Alexander Castillo, 27, of the Bronx, was found guilty after a jury trial of assault and criminal possession of a weapon, among other charges, for shooting two men following a dispute at a Port Jefferson pool hall in December 2022. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the verdict.
Couple pleads guilty after fatal fire at rental home kills two sisters
Peter and Pamela Miller have pleaded guilty in connection with a fatal fire at their rental home in Noyac, Suffolk County. The fire resulted in the deaths of Lindsay Wiener, 19, and Jillian Wiener, 21, who were vacationing with their family.
Couple pleads guilty following fatal fire at New York rental home
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced that Peter Miller, 56, pleaded guilty to two counts of Criminally Negligent Homicide, and Pamela Miller, 55, pleaded guilty to Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree. This follows a fatal fire at their rental home in which sisters Lindsay Wiener, 19, and Jillian Wiener, 21, of Maryland died while vacationing with their family in 2022.
Former Stony Brook attorney sentenced for stealing over $800K from clients
Douglas Valente, 57, of Florida, the former principal attorney at the Valente Law Group based in Stony Brook, was sentenced to one and one-third to four years in prison for stealing more than $800,000 from three former clients by taking their money from his escrow account. The announcement was made by Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney.
Coram man sentenced to ten years for firearm and narcotics possession
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced that Desmond Roberts, 32, of Coram, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision. This follows his guilty plea in April to illegally possessing a loaded semi-automatic firearm and various narcotics found during a court-ordered search of his residence in June 2023.
