When Rudy Giuliani came to Suffolk County for a big birthday bash, it was a reminder of the man America knows as “America’s Mayor,” the bold, brash, brave, battled-tested bad-ass who stood tall after Sept. 11th, comforted a grieving nation and became a symbol of strength when our great nation needed it most.
That is why what has been done to Giuliani, the political persecution of conservatives and weaponization of the courts, is so disgraceful, disgusting and deranged.
For years, the radical left has preached about democracy, "No Kings," fairness and justice.
Yet when it came to Giuliani, they cheered as lawfare was used to destroy him.
Prosecutors and political enemies weaponized the justice system against a man who dared to stand by President Donald J. Trump and challenge the political establishment.
Giuliani was not merely criticized. He was targeted. His reputation was shredded. His finances were devastated. His life’s work was reduced by his enemies to a political caricature.
The same people who once praised his courage after 9/11 turned on him the moment his political beliefs no longer matched theirs.
At the heart of Giuliani’s ordeal was his decision to question the integrity of the 2020 election and advocate on behalf of his client, President Trump.
Whether one agreed with his conclusions or not, Giuliani exercised what I believe was his First Amendment right to raise concerns, challenge election procedures and seek legal remedies through the courts.
To his defenders like yours truly, he was not punished for committing a crime, but for taking a politically unpopular position in one of the most contentious periods in modern American history.
This is exactly why I strongly support President Trump’s effort to create an Anti-Weaponization Fund for victims of lawfare, whether it is people like Giuliani who expressed their First Amendment rights, elderly grandmothers who spent time in prison for walking through the Capitol on January 6th, or victims of the bogus Russia Collusion hoax.
No American should have to face financial ruin, public humiliation and endless legal attacks simply because he or she holds the "wrong" political views that differ from left wing lunatics who despise America and everything our great nation stands for.
The Justice Department’s announced fund is a necessary step toward correcting a dangerous abuse of power by the corrupt and crooked Biden administration.
If government power, prosecutors or politically motivated legal campaigns were used to punish people for their beliefs, those victims deserve a process to be heard and compensated.
Rudy Giuliani should be among them.
He gave his life to public service. He led New York through its darkest hour. And in return, the political machine tried to break him.
America must not allow lawfare to become the new normal. Justice should never be a weapon. Giuliani deserves redress, and so do all victims of political persecution.
I hope America's Mayor is the first in line. He deserves every penny, and then some.
