Right On Cue: There Is A Dart In The Making

Guest Contributor | Daniel Correa

Although second-year New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart received plenty of backlash from his introduction of current U.S. President Donald J. Trump at a political rally in Suffern, New York, the big picture here is the massive upside Dart has garnered as he enters his second year with Big Blue under the newly installed John Harbaugh regime.

Dart appeared on stage at the “Fighting for American Workers” campaign rally, which headlined Republican Representative Mike Lawler. While at the podium, the first-round Ole Miss product led a “Go Big Blue!” chant before turning it over to President Trump.

After being introduced, Trump lauded Jaxson Dart, with the President quoted as saying that Dart is a “future Hall of Famer.”

However, controversy emerged when Trump made comments regarding Dart’s physical presence and physique.

President Trump made remarks directed toward the quarterback, referencing how Dart’s bodily features and sheer presence would make other women who desired to pursue him unable to do so because of that fact.

For example, President Trump referenced Dart’s legs, exclaiming that he has “legs like tree trunks” and suggesting that women could not handle the physique of such a man.

However, despite receiving criticism from teammate Abdul Carter, when you look at the grand scheme of things, there is massive upside to this quarterback entering his second year with the New York Football Giants.

The second-year quarterback put up outstanding numbers in his rookie tune-up with New York last season. Dart connected for 15 passing touchdowns and threw only five interceptions, while adding nine rushing touchdowns and 487 rushing yards. He proved to be a highly mobile quarterback in the ground game and showcased his versatility as an above-average performer in both the passing and rushing categories.

Dart also amassed 2,272 passing yards in his first season at quarterback with the G-Men.

Additionally, with the new upgrades to the coaching staff and active roster by tough-as-nails veteran head coach John Harbaugh during the current offseason, complemented by a series of rigorous, hard-nosed OTAs implemented by Harbaugh himself, this Giants team, organization and overall outlook appear poised for transformation and resurgence.

In turn, what should be the focus right now is Jaxson Dart’s upcoming second season with the New York Football Giants. Unfortunately, that storyline has been overshadowed by the controversy surrounding the May 22 political rally in Suffern and the resulting attention directed toward Dart himself.

It remains to be seen what will unfold next and how the situation may ultimately impact Dart both on and off the field as he prepares for a pivotal second season in New York.
