“Thank you to B2K Development & King Quality Roofing & Siding for their expansion support of the VFW Post 6249 World War II & Military History Museum.”
"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."— Winston Churchill
On May 22nd, B2K Development was a major financial and building supporter of VFW Post 6249 Suffolk County World War II Military History Museum’s expansion.
In early April of 2025, this unique business donated new bathrooms for VFW Post 6249.
After a brief ceremony, two of the partners from B2K Development, Chief Executive Officer Steven Krieger and Principal and President of Construction Jon Weiss, walked across the street from this veteran’s post to visit this museum.
As they moved through this learning site, they asked questions and were keenly interested in the military exhibits, artifacts, and resources.
After having several conversations about the various parts of this museum that range from the Revolutionary War to the combat actions of today, we walked outside and looked at a proposed expansion of another 600 square feet.
The partners intently listened to the future goals of the museum, where they openly spoke about the service and sacrifice of their own family members.
It was positive conversation about patriotism, the mission of this museum, and looking toward the future.
We parted ways with handshakes and appreciation for the new bathrooms.
About three days later, we received a call from B2K that they would fund the entire construction needs of this expansion.
Thank you not only to Krieger and Weiss, but to the special charity of Chairman Jan Burman and Principal and President of Development David Burman.
Quickly, it was noticeable that every member of B2K was motivated to reconstruct this open-ended building that was the former Rocky Point Train Station from many years ago.
Thank you to the construction team of Nick Masem, Brandon Solomon, and Tom Vanripper for their extensive knowledge to ensure the successful completion of the framing, electrical, flooring, grading, installation, drainage, sheet rocking, and many other construction needs to expand this building.
At every turn, B2K completed paperwork, provided valuable advice, and spoke of the current and future building needs of this growing museum.
Walking into the museum, the exhibits, weapons, pictures, and artifacts are all elevated within a “cape” ceiling atmosphere.
During the inside framing, there was an important change and request that was quickly approved by B2K.
We wanted to utilize the height of this museum ceiling to present historic items that added to the labor and expenses of this project.
Right away the partnership approved of this change, and they were extremely pleased when the museum opened the presentation of many military artifacts that are viewed in heightened spots.
From December to May, B2K never wavered during the severely cold winter and heavy snow to create this expansion.
When Krieger and Weiss spoke to the crowd of over three hundred people, they both addressed the importance of always paying tribute to our veterans and the ultimate sacrifices that our citizens sacrificed for our security and freedom.
Walking through the museum, Krieger was proud of the major role that B2K played to ensure that visitors will learn from the immense number of artifacts, rifles, swords, enemy flags, bayonets, uniforms, maps, helmets, etc.
They even purchased a glass enclosure of an exhibit of the D-Day landings, soldiers, and fortifications at Omaha Beach and cherry wall encasements to prevent rare military history items.
Close to his heart was the army service of his father as a young man during the Korean War.
The partnership of B2K with this military museum ensures that our future generations never forget the immense services of our past, present, and future veterans.
Outside, Weiss was with his team who was responsible for much of the planning and construction, and he was happy that this former railroad station became a museum.
It was a gratifying experience to work next to these development professionals who patriotically expanded this learning site.
This project is one of many current and past contributions by the B2K Development Ownership and Team to support numerous local nonprofit organizations that have helped and strengthened the improvement of communities.
This business enjoys conducting hands-on initiatives such as the annual spring cleanup at Heritage Park.
King Quality Roofing and Siding was a major company that utilized its construction expertise to support the growth of this museum.
Longtime owner Jeff Brett was a tenacious wrestler at Port Jefferson, and he quickly said yes to this expansion of this project about two years ago.
He visited the museum and marveled at all the resources, asked and answered questions, and had a huge smile on his face as he discussed the prospects of this site.
Quickly, he offered the installation of free siding, windows, and roofing materials.
With his trademark smile, Brett said, “I am aboard,” and stated to call him at any time.
In 2025, he donated the roofing for VFW Post 6249, where his workers conducted major repairs to this older military installation.
He said numerous times there would be no “King Quality” without the efforts of our American veterans.
Brett often states these feelings when he is next to VFW Post 6249 Combat Vietnam War Veteran Jimmy Henke, who is his uncle.
After VFW Post 6249’s ceremony that had many local political leaders, military groups, and residents, Brett inquired about the local Rocky Point baseball players.
They were present to help clean after this event and move tables and chairs.
Brett asked about them and he quickly said that his company would provide these young men college scholarships.
There was no fanfare or publicity.
Simply, Brett liked seeing the respect and character that these student-athletes presented toward our older veterans, and he wanted to help them with some of their future college needs.
Ensuring that the front of the building’s appearance flowed with the older part of the museum, his team exactly matched the dark green siding that graces the front of the building.
His workers were at the museum during poor weather conditions, installing the siding with a foot of snow around them, and before a powerful storm, they wrapped the front of the building.
This protected the expansion part of this site from the terrible weather conditions.
Like B2K, King Quality is a large business that continues to give back to all programs, initiatives, and groups across Long Island and New York State.
Brett’s business mantra is to always work on other customers' homes as if it was his “own,” and he is always willing to help support our veterans.
