Big Gun Bust: Probationer Busted With Arsenal of Weapons

A Huntington Station man already on probation was busted with an arsenal of weapons, assault rifles and gun-making equipment after probation officers stumbled upon the cache during a home check Thursday night, Suffolk County police said.

Authorities say Matthew Hibner, 37, was caught with enough firepower to stock a small militia when officers visited his Roxanne Court home at about 7:10 p.m. for a routine probation compliance check.

What they allegedly found inside shocked investigators.

According to police, probation officers spotted weapons and gun-making parts in plain view before calling in Second Precinct officers and detectives for backup.

By the end of the search, cops had seized four assault rifles, a revolver, a shotgun, a stun gun, multiple high-capacity magazines and a stash of gun-building equipment, including upper and lower receivers, gun molds and a drill press allegedly used to manufacture firearms.

Police also recovered controlled substances from the home.

Hibner was slapped with a laundry list of charges, including four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, 10 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree and four counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.

The bust is especially alarming because Hibner was already on probation for stolen property charges at the time of his arrest, authorities said.

Hibner was held overnight and is expected to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.
