Bellport Man Busted in Speedway Murder Slay

A Bellport man has been charged with second-degree murder after a woman was found unresponsive inside a vehicle at a Yaphank gas station and later died, Suffolk County police said.

Michael McHenry, 40, of 1743 Wisteria Circle in Bellport, was arrested Saturday at approximately 8:13 p.m. in connection with the death of Juliann Bachmann, also of Bellport.

Police said Bachmann, 30, was discovered injured and unresponsive inside a vehicle at the Speedway gas station located at 80A Horseblock Road at approximately 7:25 a.m. Saturday.

She was transported to NYU Langone Hospital — Suffolk in Patchogue, where she was pronounced dead.

According to Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives, a preliminary investigation determined the circumstances surrounding Bachmann’s death were criminal in nature.

McHenry was charged with Murder in the Second Degree and was held overnight at the Third Precinct. He was scheduled to be arraigned May 17 at First District Court in Central Islip.

Suffolk County Police said Homicide Squad detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

Police found Bachmann injured and unresponsive in a vehicle at the Speedway gas station at approximately 7:25 a.m. Saturday, according to authorities.

Further details about the circumstances surrounding the killing and the relationship between McHenry and Bachmann were not immediately released by investigators.
