The Albany powers that be keep punching Long Islanders in the face: How much longer are they going to take it? | Photo illustration

Albany keeps punching Suffolk County families in the face, and too many people keep showing up asking for another round.

You’re angry about property taxes? Good. You should be. We are taxed to death while Albany wastes billions and treats suburban taxpayers like a bottomless ATM. Our lives would be incredible, living on "Easy Street," if Albany Democrats treated us they way do illegal immigrants.

You’re furious about Congestion Pricing? You should be. Working people already pay outrageous costs just to live here, and now they want to charge you again just for driving into Manhattan after the transit system they mismanage inevitably fails.

You’re sick of crime, bail reform disasters, overcrowded schools, soaring utility bills, and watching your paycheck disappear faster every year? Then stop acting surprised. These policies didn’t fall from the sky. Politicians passed them. Politicians defended them. Politicians campaigned on them.

And every election cycle, voters complain loudly, post angry Facebook statuses, scream at family parties, and then either stay home or send the same people right back to Albany to do it all over again.

That’s the real problem. If we are going to change the policies in New York that crush us, we have to take action to change the crooked policy makers. Keyboard warriors need not apply for this battle.

Albany Democrats count on outrage without action. They know millions of New Yorkers will complain endlessly but never lift a finger to change the people making these decisions. Keyboard warriors don’t scare them. Tweets don’t scare them. Rants at the dinner table don’t scare them.

Votes do.

Volunteers do.

Candidates and elected officials with a backbone like Assemblyman Joe DeStefano who are willing to fight do.

If Suffolk County taxpayers actually want different results, then we need different lawmakers. Not softer rhetoric. Not another empty press conference. Not another politician pretending to be moderate six months before Election Day.

Real change only happens when YOU stop rewarding failure.

If you’re angry, prove it. Get involved. Knock on doors. Support candidates who will fight Albany’s insanity instead of enabling it. Because the people wrecking this state are counting on your frustration turning into apathy.

And so far, sadly, they’ve been right.
