The Half Hollow Hills varsity softball team is heading back to the postseason for the second consecutive year, and they did so in convincing fashion this week with a dominant 12–0 victory over Middle Country.
The win capped off a strong finish to the regular season for Hills East, which ended the year with an 11–8 overall record. One of those losses came in non-league play, making their performance within league competition even more impressive. While the Thunderbirds may have started the season on a slower note, they found their rhythm when it mattered most, closing out the year with five wins in their final seven games.
What stood out most during this late-season surge was the team’s resilience in tight situations. Hills East showed a knack for coming through in clutch moments, winning three of their last five games by just one run. That ability to stay composed under pressure could prove to be a major factor as they head into playoff competition.
A big part of the team’s success this season has been the steady presence of pitcher Lucy Feigenbaum. Serving as the team’s reliable starter, Feigenbaum recorded nine wins on the year, ranking her among the top pitchers in Suffolk County. Her consistency in the circle has given Hills East a strong foundation, allowing the team to stay competitive in every game.
Offensively, the Thunderbirds have also shown growth as the season progressed, providing timely hitting and run support to complement their pitching. The combination of improved offense and dependable defense has helped turn their season around and build momentum heading into the playoffs.
Now, with a postseason berth secured, Hills East will look to carry that momentum forward. If their late-season performance is any indication, this is a team that could be poised to make some noise in the playoff bracket.
