A Glen Cove man was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for his role in the 2022 kidnapping and murder of a Central Islip man who was targeted after parking in front of a Bay Shore home, Suffolk County prosecutors said.
Christopher Perdomo, 29, pleaded guilty last year to first-degree murder, kidnapping, robbery and weapons charges in the killing of 29-year-old Linver Ortiz Ponce.
According to prosecutors, the violence began shortly before midnight on Sept. 17, 2022, when Ortiz Ponce parked his Chevrolet Camaro outside the home of Kayla Alvarenga on Fifth Avenue in Bay Shore. Authorities said Alvarenga became angry and ordered him to move the vehicle.
Prosecutors said Alvarenga then called Perdomo and several teenage accomplices, directing them to confront Ortiz Ponce.
The group allegedly dragged the victim from his car while he slept, beat him and stole his vehicle before chasing him to a nearby gas station.
Surveillance video captured Ortiz Ponce being abducted at gunpoint and forced into a stolen BMW, prosecutors said.
The group later drove to a church parking lot, where Ortiz Ponce was beaten again. Authorities said Alvarenga ordered Perdomo to kill the victim, and Perdomo shot him multiple times as he attempted to crawl away.
District Attorney Raymond Tierney called the killing senseless, saying Ortiz Ponce “was killed for simply parking in front of the wrong house.”
Alvarenga, 23, was convicted after a jury trial in March and sentenced in April to life in prison without parole. Five teenage co-defendants also pleaded guilty and have been sentenced, prosecutors said.
