Bob Mayo has officially been inducted into the Basketball Coaches Association of New York Hall of Fame, a well-deserved honor for a respected leader who has spent decades making an impact on athletics across Long Island and throughout New York State.

Mayo is widely known for his longtime service as an athletic director in Suffolk County, where he helped guide student-athletes, coaches, and school programs with dedication and professionalism. Throughout his career, he earned a reputation as a tireless supporter of high school sports and someone deeply committed to creating opportunities for young athletes to succeed both on and off the court.

His influence extended far beyond the local level as well. Mayo also served as Chairman of the Boys Basketball Committee for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. In that role, he played an important part in helping oversee and shape boys basketball across the state, contributing to championship events and ensuring the continued growth of the sport.

Known for his leadership and steady presence, Mayo became a trusted voice in scholastic athletics. Coaches, administrators, and players alike benefited from his experience and commitment to doing what was best for student-athletes.

A Babylon native, Mayo has long remained connected to the Long Island sports community. His passion for basketball also carried into the collegiate ranks, where he worked with the Stony Brook men’s basketball program.
