This past week was a dream come true for Rocky Point native Frankie Moscatiello, who had the opportunity to pitch at one of baseball’s most iconic venues — Yankee Stadium.
More than a decade ago, Moscatiello was starring locally for the Rocky Point Eagles, where he developed into one of the area’s top players. His success on the mound earned him All-Long Island honors and helped launch a standout baseball career.
After his time at Rocky Point, Moscatiello continued his success at St. Thomas Aquinas College. There, he established himself as one of the top pitchers in the program and was named Pitcher of the Year in both 2017 and 2018. His consistent excellence at the collegiate level further showcased the talent and determination that had been evident since his high school days.
This week, another major milestone was added to his baseball journey when he took the mound for the Savannah Bananas at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. For any ballplayer, stepping onto that field is special, and for a Long Island native who grew up dreaming of moments like this, it was especially meaningful.
Moscatiello entered the game in the fifth inning, and the crowd made sure he knew they were there to support him. Fans cheered loudly as he took the field, creating a memorable atmosphere for the hometown star. He later wrote on his Instagram page "I have a feeling I’m going to remember this for a while."
Originally scheduled for Saturday, the game was moved to Friday night due to the threat of rain. The schedule change did little to slow the excitement, as Yankee Stadium was packed with fans eager to see the Savannah Bananas bring their unique brand of entertainment to New York.
The Bananas delivered once again, treating the crowd to a thrilling 3-2 victory. Known for blending baseball with showmanship, the team continues to draw massive audiences everywhere it goes.
The Savannah Bananas’ popularity keeps soaring, as all 12 of their games this season have sold out. Just as impressively, they have won all but one contest, combining fun with strong play on the field.
For Moscatiello, though, the night was about more than just the final score. It was the fulfillment of a childhood dream and another proud moment for Rocky Point baseball.
