Career Café Connects Floyd Students With Pros

William Floyd High School students had a unique opportunity to explore future careers during the school’s annual Career Café, an event designed to connect students directly with working professionals across a wide range of industries.

Hosted by the school’s Business Academy, the event brought together approximately 375 students and 75 professionals for small-group discussions. Students rotated among tables, engaging in meaningful conversations that allowed them to ask questions, hear firsthand experiences, and gain a better understanding of potential career paths.

“Our goal is to give students a clearer vision of their future,” said Jacqueline Giacalone, chairperson of William Floyd High School’s Business and Technology Education department. “Sitting face-to-face with professionals allows them to ask real questions, hear authentic experiences, and begin to see themselves in these careers. This event showcases the strength of our community.”

More than 20 William Floyd alumni also returned to participate in the Career Café, offering students a relatable perspective on life after graduation. Alumni shared how their time at William Floyd helped prepare them for their professional journeys and current careers.

“Having Floyd alumni return makes this event especially meaningful,” Giacalone said. “It shows students that success is within reach and that their own journey can lead to these same opportunities.”

Career fields represented at the event included accounting, construction, healthcare, law, education, engineering, finance, hospitality, public service, technology, and more. Students were able to engage directly with professionals in both traditional and emerging industries.

School officials expressed gratitude to all of the presenters, as well as the Business Education Department, for organizing the event and providing students with a valuable, real-world learning experience that helps prepare them for future success beyond high school.
