This past week at the National Football Foundation Suffolk County Scholar Athlete Awards Brunch held at the Melville Marriott, one of the most respected team honors in local football was presented: the NFF Offensive Line Award.
The award is given each year to the top offensive line in every division across Suffolk County. It recognizes the physicality, toughness, discipline, and teamwork that define offensive line play. While skill position players often receive much of the spotlight, those in the trenches are the foundation of every successful offense.
This season’s honorees featured several standout programs from across the county. William Floyd Colonials earned the award in Suffolk I, Half Hollow Hills East Thunderbirds was recognized in Suffolk II, Sayville Golden Flashes claimed the honor in Suffolk III, and Babylon Panthers took home the award in Suffolk IV.
For William Floyd, the recognition comes as no surprise after another strong season built around physical football and a powerful running attack. The Colonials have long been known for controlling games at the line of scrimmage, and last year’s group continued that proud tradition.
William Floyd also claimed another major honor during the season when Jeru Hall received the Bob Zellner Award, presented annually to the best offensive lineman in Suffolk County. Hall’s dominant season also earned him All-Long Island First Team and All-County recognition.
His leadership and performance helped anchor one of the county’s top rushing offenses, and much of that same physical identity is expected to remain in place this coming season.
Awards for offensive linemen often carry extra meaning because they celebrate the players whose work can go unnoticed by casual fans. These athletes open running lanes, protect quarterbacks, and set the tone with effort and toughness every snap.
For William Floyd and the other winners, the honor was a proud reminder that championships and winning seasons often begin up front.
