The Town of Brookhaven is once again encouraging taxpayers to go green with the return of its popular Composter and Rain Barrel Sale, offering discounted tools to support environmentally friendly living.
The initiative promotes two simple yet impactful practices: composting and rainwater collection. Composting allows residents to turn everyday organic waste, such as food scraps and yard debris, into nutrient-rich fertilizer that can enhance soil quality and support healthier gardens.
With minimal effort, homeowners can produce natural compost in just a few weeks or months, reducing household waste while improving their landscaping.
Rain barrels provide an efficient way to conserve water by collecting runoff from rooftops. This stored rainwater can be reused for lawns and gardens, helping to reduce demand on Long Island’s aquifers while also minimizing stormwater pollution and runoff.
Residents can browse and purchase available products through the program’s official website at brookhaven.compostersale.com, where they can find detailed product descriptions, pricing, and ordering information. The sale runs through April 29, giving participants a limited window to secure discounted equipment.
Featured items include the Earth Machine composter, an 80-gallon bin designed for easy use, as well as a 55-gallon rain barrel equipped with a mesh lid, overflow hose, and spigot. A dual chamber compost tumbler is also available, allowing users to maintain multiple compost batches at once.
All purchases must be picked up in person at Brookhaven Town Hall on May 1 between noon and 6 p.m. Proof of residency will be required, as the sale is open to Brookhaven residents only.
Town officials say the program helps residents adopt sustainable practices while maintaining attractive, eco-friendly properties.
