The William Floyd Colonials girls' varsity basketball team saw its memorable season come to an end this past weekend, but the impact of its historic run will be felt throughout the school community for years to come.
William Floyd energized its students, staff, and supporters with an exciting journey through the state tournament, building a strong foundation for the future. On the morning of the team’s departure for upstate New York, the entire school community came together to send the Colonials off in style. The William Floyd High School Pep Band, led by director Kimberly Hyland, filled the hallways with traditional fight songs as students, faculty, and staff lined the corridor from the west gymnasium to the north entrance. The celebration honored the team’s accomplishment as the New York State Class AAA Regional Champions and set the tone for their trip to the Final Four.
Once in the state tournament, the Colonials continued their strong play, earning a victory in the quarterfinal round before advancing to face the Aquinas Institute girls' basketball team in the semifinals of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association tournament. Despite their efforts, William Floyd fell 67–37 in a challenging matchup against a talented Aquinas squad.
Several players delivered notable performances in the semifinal. Savannah Pantry led the way with a strong all-around effort, finishing with 13 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block. Chloe Campbell added eight points, while Taleah Coppola contributed seven. Gabrielle Bell-Eleazer scored six points, Rosie Micucci added two, and Milania Farrow chipped in a free throw to round out the scoring.
Following the game, the school shared a message on social media celebrating the team’s accomplishments. “It was an amazing season — a AAA Regional Championship, two games in the NYSPHSAA tournament, one victory in the quarterfinals, and memories that will last a lifetime,” the post read.
While the season has concluded, the outlook for the Colonials remains bright. With a young and talented roster expected to return next year, the experience gained during this postseason run will be invaluable. The team’s success has not only elevated the program but also brought the school community together in support of a shared goal.
As the Colonials turn their attention to the future, this season will be remembered as a defining chapter — one that showcased resilience, teamwork, and the excitement of high school athletics at its best.
