A 36-year-old Calverton man has been indicted in connection with the fatal stabbing of his mother, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced.

Curtis Trent Jr. was charged with second-degree murder in the death of his mother, Kathleen Harrison Trent, 63, who also lived in the Forge Road home they shared. He also faces charges of concealment of a human corpse and tampering with physical evidence.

According to prosecutors, a relative went to the residence on Jan. 29, 2026, and noticed what appeared to be blood in and around the home. After being unable to locate Kathleen Trent, the relative contacted police.

Officers from the Riverhead Town Police Department responded that evening but were unable to find the victim, her vehicle, or her son. Investigators later determined that Kathleen Trent had last been seen two days earlier, on Jan. 27.

When police entered the home, they discovered that the victim’s phone, wallet and medication were still inside, despite her vehicle being missing. Investigators also observed what appeared to be blood on the sole of a pair of male sneakers in the house. The sneakers and other items were collected and sent for forensic analysis.

Authorities said Curtis Trent Jr. returned to the Forge Road home in the early morning hours of Jan. 30, driving his mother’s 2017 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck. Police were waiting at the residence and questioned him about his mother’s whereabouts, but he was unable to provide an explanation. The truck was impounded, and investigators later allegedly found blood on the tailgate.

Additional evidence was recovered on Feb. 6, when clothing believed to belong to the defendant and appearing to have blood on it was discovered along Mill Road in Manorville.

On Feb. 11, Kathleen Trent’s body was found wrapped in a blanket about 25 feet off Connecticut Avenue in Manorville. An autopsy determined she died from multiple stab wounds.

Trent was ordered held without bail and faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted. He is due back in court April 22.
