Center Moriches sports has a long and storied history, but few families have left a mark quite like the Rotundas. Mike and Jennifer Rotunda have four children, and all of them have excelled in Center Moriches athletics, particularly on the soccer field. Through years of dedication, leadership, and competitive excellence, the Rotunda name has become synonymous with success in the school’s athletic community.
The family legacy began with Nick Rotunda, the oldest sibling, who set the standard. Nick played four years of varsity soccer at Center Moriches, earning All-Conference honors twice and establishing himself as one of the program’s standout performers. His success at the high school level paved the way for his younger siblings and carried over to the collegiate ranks. Nick now competes at Canisius University, where he is a sophomore and continues to represent the Rotunda name with pride.
This past year, however, truly cemented the family’s place in school history. Twins Zack and Gia Rotunda, along with their younger brother Alex, achieved a remarkable collection of accolades, including All-Conference, All-County, All-State, Exceptional Senior, and League MVP honors. The Rotunda home now resembles a Hall of Fame for Center Moriches athletics, with achievements that reflect both individual excellence and a shared family commitment to success.
Twin seniors Zack and Gia have been pillars of the soccer program for years. Zack, a commanding presence at center back, earned a reputation as the defensive anchor of the Red Devils. Often described as “the calm in the chaos,” he was known for his composure, intelligent reads, and unwavering consistency. His leadership and reliability were rewarded with All-Conference and Exceptional Senior honors. Zack’s high school career culminated fittingly with an invitation to the 2025 Exceptional Senior All-Star Game, where he competed among the region’s elite and helped lead his squad to victory.
On the girls’ side, Gia Rotunda matched that excellence with grit and determination. A five-year varsity player and two-year captain, she consistently took on the toughest defensive matchups while still finding ways to create opportunities for her teammates. Her leadership extended beyond soccer, as she also serves as a two-year captain and point guard for the varsity basketball team. Gia’s outstanding season earned her All-County and All-State honors, placing her among the elite players in New York. She will continue her soccer career at Saint Michael’s College, competing at the NCAA Division II level.
While Zack and Gia conclude their high school careers, the Rotunda legacy continues through their younger brother Alex. A sophomore with tremendous potential, Alex has already delivered one of the most impressive seasons in the program’s recent history. In just his second varsity season, he earned All-Conference, All-County, League MVP, and All-State honors. A versatile player who excelled in both the midfield and attacking roles, Alex also stands out as a multi-sport athlete, playing varsity lacrosse and serving as the junior varsity point guard in basketball.
Beyond their accomplishments, the Rotundas are admired for their leadership, work ethic, and impact on the community. Together, they have elevated Center Moriches soccer and left behind a lasting blueprint for success that will inspire future generations.
