This past week, history was made for girls wrestling on Long Island at the 2025 St. Anthony’s Friar Bash Invitational. For the first time in the tournament’s history, three sisters entered the prestigious event—and all three left as champions.
The Hernandez sisters from Newfield High School each captured first place, showcasing dominance, discipline, and remarkable family pride on one of the sport’s biggest stages. Zoey Hernandez claimed the championship at 94 pounds, Julianna Hernandez earned the title in the 132-pound weight class, and Madison Hernandez took home the crown at 145 pounds. Their historic performance highlighted not only individual excellence, but also the continued growth and strength of girls wrestling across the region.
The St. Anthony’s High School Girls Friar Bash Tournament is the only CHSAA/private school event that has consistently offered a girls wrestling tournament over the past several years, making the Hernandez sisters’ achievement even more significant.
Rocky Point also enjoyed an outstanding showing at the invitational. Angelica Smiech captured first-place honors at 100 pounds, while Isha Boucicaut earned a strong finish at 165 pounds. Delilah Skurnick finished third at 120 pounds, and Molly McCue followed closely with a fourth-place finish in the same weight class. Veronica Escobar placed fourth at 126 pounds, and Adrianna D’Agostino also finished fourth at 132 pounds after a competitive run.
Additional podium finishes came from Karlee Muralles and Daisy Morbillo, who each earned third-place honors in their respective weight classes. Their performances helped round out an impressive day for Long Island competitors.
The 2025 Friar Bash Invitational served as a powerful reminder of how far girls wrestling has come and how bright the future remains for the sport on Long Island.
