Stony Brook University launches first Back the Brook crowdfunding event for students

On November 19, Stony Brook University will launch its first Back the Brook event, a 24-hour crowdfunding campaign aimed at supporting student clubs, organizations, and athletic programs. The initiative is designed to enhance student experiences on campus by providing additional resources that help these groups grow and achieve their goals.

Although many of the university’s student organizations receive funding from the Undergraduate Student Government (USG), those budgets often do not cover all expenses related to hosting events, purchasing equipment, or traveling for off-campus activities. Back the Brook seeks to address these gaps by encouraging alumni, students, faculty, staff, family members, and friends to contribute directly to student groups.

USG President Sarah Elbaroudy commented on the importance of this effort: “Back the Brook reflects the very essence of Stony Brook, a community that leads with generosity and heart. Every gift strengthens the foundation of student life, empowering Seawolves to lead, create and inspire change. Through giving, we affirm our shared belief that Stony Brook’s greatest legacy is its people — a community united by purpose, pride and possibility.”

More information about participating in Back the Brook can be found at SB Matters.

Is There a New Ace in Town?

The New York Mets have a new ace, and fantasy owners have been accustomed to viewing Freddy Peralta as a near-ace for some time. The move to a more pitcher-friendly park should help, but do not overreach, because the reality is that the lineup around him is roughly the same and the bullpen is likely worse at protecting his leads. Peralta has been a standout for years, and slotting him in as a high-value fantasy arm is easy. The question is just how high he should go.
