Brookhaven Recycles student poster contest is underway

Brookhaven holds student centered recycling poster context. | Town of Brookhaven

The Town of Brookhaven invites students to participate in its 2nd annual Brookhaven Recycles Poster Contest. The contest is open to Brookhaven students grades K-12.

Brookhaven wants you to show them your best artwork that will inspire others to reduce, reuse, recycle, and take better care of our planet.

Winners will be invited to attend the Town Board Meeting on Tuesday, November 20th where they will receive commendation from Supervisor Daniel J. Panico and members of the Town Board.

There will be winners in grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12, and special education. Information on judging and submission guidelines can be found at Contest guidelines.

The deadline to submit your poster is Tuesday, Oct 28th at 8:00 pm so get your creative juices flowing. Students should select one of this year’s themes as the basis for their poster.

Theme 1: Choose to Reuse!

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle: all three Rs are important, and this theme focuses on the second one: Reuse. For example, reusable bottles and Tupperware can replace single-use water bottles and Ziploc bags. Old boxes can be used to store things or can be made into a craft. There are so many creative ways to reuse old items, and they all help to make less trash. Use your poster to show how people in your community can Choose to Reuse.

Theme 2: Recycle Right!

We all want to recycle, but it’s important to recycle right! Make a poster that tells people what should go in the recycling bin. You can also use this to tell people what CANNOT go in the recycling bin. You can find examples of what can be recycled by visiting Brookhaven Recycles.

Is There a New Ace in Town?

The New York Mets have a new ace, and fantasy owners have been accustomed to viewing Freddy Peralta as a near-ace for some time. The move to a more pitcher-friendly park should help, but do not overreach, because the reality is that the lineup around him is roughly the same and the bullpen is likely worse at protecting his leads. Peralta has been a standout for years, and slotting him in as a high-value fantasy arm is easy. The question is just how high he should go.
