Kyri Law, 18, of Farmingville, was indicted for Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Assault after he allegedly rammed into a police vehicle while attempting to flee arrest, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced.
“This case is yet another reminder of the dangerous situations our law enforcement officers face every day,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney. “We are grateful for their courage as they work diligently to keep us safe.”
According to prosecutors, investigators arrived at Law’s Farmingville apartment on August 28 with a search warrant. At the time, police and prosecutors stated he possessed an unserialized, loaded handgun equipped with an extended magazine. Instead of cooperating, Law fled the scene in his mother’s 2022 Alfa Romeo, sparking an eight-mile police pursuit that stretched from Farmingville to Oakdale.
During the chase, prosecutors said, Law rammed his vehicle into a police car, injuring three officers in the process. The pursuit ended only after Law crashed the vehicle. Along the way, he allegedly tossed a black bag containing the illegal firearm out of the car window in an attempt to discard evidence.
Authorities later recovered the discarded weapon after a search of the area. Investigators said the firearm matched a gun Law had displayed on social media earlier in the month, which initially drew the attention of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Gang Task Force and the Suffolk County Police Department’s Gun Crime Reduction Unit.
On September 16, a grand jury indicted Law on seven charges, including Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and multiple counts of Assault. He is scheduled to return to court on October 23. If convicted of the top charge, Law faces up to 15 years in prison.
