Moriches Elementary School has released its Title I Compact for the 2025-26 school year, outlining the roles and responsibilities of the school, parents, and students in supporting student achievement.
The compact emphasizes collaboration between home and school to enhance academic, social, and emotional growth. The document states: "Moriches Elementary School values the home school connection and believes that a collaborative approach to education will improve our students’ academic, social and emotional growth. We invite the parents of our students to be active participants in their children’s education. This partnership can be accomplished by providing the following opportunities for parents to share in their child’s education."
According to the compact, Moriches Elementary School agrees to provide high-quality curriculum and instruction aligned with best practices, differentiated learning opportunities, coordination among grade levels, and adherence to New York State Teaching Standards. The school also commits to holding parent-teacher conferences twice a year, keeping parents informed about programs and their rights through events such as Meet the Teacher Night, P.T.O meetings, written communication, phone calls, Parent Square platform updates, and social media.
Parents will receive frequent reports on student progress through various channels including report cards and scheduled conferences. The compact states that parents are encouraged to participate actively in planning and improving school programs through committees like the Parent Involvement Committee or Budget Advisory Committee. Additionally, opportunities are provided for parents to volunteer in classrooms or at events.
The agreement also outlines ways in which Moriches Elementary supports parental understanding of state standards and assessments by offering workshops and meetings. Technology support is available during evening events for accessing educational apps such as Parent Portal or Google Apps.
For their part, parents agree to share responsibility for student achievement by monitoring homework and attendance, providing appropriate study environments at home, reading with their children regularly, staying informed via newsletters or digital platforms like Parent Square or teacher websites, attending P.T.O meetings when possible, volunteering time or resources if able, maintaining open communication with teachers regarding student progress, and becoming involved in developing or evaluating school programs.
Students are expected to attend school regularly; read nightly (15-30 minutes with an adult for grades K-2; at least 30 minutes independently for grades 3-5); complete homework; come prepared each day; finish assignments diligently; believe they can learn; discuss what they have learned with family members; do all homework promptly while seeking help if needed; read outside of class daily; give all notices from school directly to guardians.
All parties—school staff members (including the principal), parents/guardians, and students—are asked to sign the compact as a commitment toward achieving educational goals together: "We agree to work together, to the best of our abilities, as educators and parents to fulfill our common goal of providing for the successful education of our children."
The revised compact was last updated in March 2025.
