The William Floyd High School boys' varsity tennis team has secured a playoff spot for the fourth year in a row.
The Colonials ended their regular season with an overall record of 10-5, including an 8-4 record in League I.
This performance earned them a first-round bye as the No. 12 seed in the Section XI playoffs. Their first playoff match is scheduled against Smithtown West, seeded fifth, on Thursday, May 15.
In addition to their team success, the entire starting lineup qualified for the Divisional Championships. Vidal Macchia achieved the No. 2 seed in singles, while Andrew Sanchez and Muhammad Muhammad claimed the No. 6 seed in doubles.
These athletes will compete in the county championships this week. Notably, Vidal Macchia, Andrew Sanchez, and Muhammad Muhammad received All-County honors for their performances during the season.
The 2024-25 roster includes Moshin Ali, Dylan Amaya, Thomas Betz, Joe Cabrera, Joshua Catania, Ehrby Cherieperrault, Christian D’Ambrosio, Matias Diaz, Max Heitman, Joshua Lugo, Vidal Macchia, Brian Morales, Muhammad Muhammad, Paolo Nogueira, Tyler Paiz, Diego Paqui, Axel Pesantez-Medina, Joshua Rodriguez, Andrew Sanchez, Devin Scalise, Cristian Sarmiento and Kenny Vo Nguyen. Head coach Michael Clauberg and assistant coach Rob Hodgson lead the team.
Most of the senior members were recently honored during a celebration of senior day. Of the 22 student-athletes on the roster, 15 are graduating seniors: Moshin Ali, Dylan Amaya, Thomas Betz Joe Cabrera Joshua Catania Christian D’Ambrosio Max Heitman Joshua Lugo Muhammad Muhammad Paolo Nogueira Tyler Paiz Axel-Pesantez-Medina Joshua Rodriguez Andrew Sanchez and Kenny Vo Nguyen.
