The award highlights Tri-State high school football athletes who demonstrate a relentless work ethic and unmatched love for the game. Finalists for the award will receive a $1,000 equipment grant for their high school football programs with the grand prize winner having the USA Football Heart of a Giant trophy presented on the field during a New York Giants’ home game this December and an additional $9,000 equipment grant for their high school football program. The award is given out by the partnership of the New York Giants and the Hospital for Special Surgery.
The accolade isn’t the only one the Cornell University Commit was nominated for this past week. According to a press release by the William Floyd School District, Lesiewicz was also nominated for the Section XI Scholar-Athlete Scholarship presented by Island Federal Credit Union for his outstanding efforts both in the classroom and in his community.
Lesiewicz was nominated for the award by athletic director Brian Babst and his football coach Paul Longo.
“Lesiewicz embodies the three requirements needed to win the scholarship,” read the press release about his nomination for the awards. “Athletic success, academic excellence and commitment to improving the Long Island community.”
The senior football star has been described as an All-County and All-State kicker for the William Floyd varsity football team.
“In addition to working with his local youth football teams in his community, Caden helped collect sports equipment that was donated to Haiti to help school programs in need,” read the press release. “When he’s not splitting the uprights, Caden is owning an impressive grade point average in the classroom.”
Lesiewicz will be wrapping up his historic career on the gridiron this November; he is a stand-out at multiple positions including kicker, punter, safety and running back. He won the Tom Cassese Award which is given to the best defensive back in Suffolk County. He also won the inaugural best kicker in the county award as a junior and also set a school record with a 52-yard field goal this season.
In his senior season, he has gained 331 all purpose yards while averaging a ridiculous 8.7 yards per carry as a running back, 27 tackles and 6 interceptions on defense, and has scored 70 total points combined between field goals, extra points, and touchdowns.
