On Sunday February 19th a remembrance service was held at Temple Beth El in Patchogue for the four chaplains. Army chaplains: George Fox (Methodist), Alexander Goode (Jewish), Clark Poling (Dutch Reformed) and John Washington (Roman Catholic). The chaplains sacrificed their life vests to four soldiers without, after their boat the U.S.A.T Dorchester sank in the North Atlantic after it was hit by a Nazi torpedo. The four chaplains and 668 soldiers and sailors went down with the ship.
