Suffolk Courts Close Out Black History Month With Grand Celebration

District Administrative Judge Hon. Andrew A. Crecca welcomed the large audience and kicked off the celebration with opening remarks. "This program provides us a glimpse into the countless contributions and the lasting influence of the African American community on modern day art and culture," said Administrative Judge Crecca. He added, "there simply is no denying the profound impact that it has had all around us. Today, we take a moment to think about just how significant and groundbreaking these contributions are and to give those people the recognition and celebration that they truly deserve."

L.I.'s Oldest Art Guild - Wet Paints Studio Group Celebrates 75 Years

L.I.'s Oldest Art Guild (since 1949), the Wet Paints Studio Group is based out of Sayville, however members are from all over Suffolk County. It is a group of about 100 local artists dedicated to promoting fine art. The group provides workshops, visiting artist demonstrations, and networking opportunities for artists. They also provide a scholarship to a Sayville High School graduate seeking studies in art. Wet Paints always welcomes new members, and anyone can visit and view artist demos on You Tube.

Monumental Moment in Suffolk Environmental History

The first was a bipartisan gathering of elected officials, along with Long Island's environmental, business, and labor leaders, to restate our support of green energy and to urge Gov. Hochul to keep the Sunrise Wind project on track. This $700 million effort will provide massive benefits to our region. It will bring clean, renewable energy for more than 600,000 homes, hundreds of jobs, and millions of dollars in training and operational programs.

East Quogue Elementary Raises $11,142 for American Heart Association

As students registered for the challenge, they wrote their name on the Registration Hall of Fame. Each morning, the school made announcements about the fundraising efforts. Students in grades 3-6 participated in four competitive stations: Jackpot Shot, Super Shooter 6, Shooting Knockout and a Skills Obstacle Course. Winners received paper crowns for being top three Super Shooter 6 scorers and for being the top boy and girl shooters in the Jackpot Shot.

Panico's Bold Move Deserves Praise

The town council veteran outlined his plan to vastly improve the quality of life in communities such as his Mastic Beach hometown in a letter to Romaine shortly after he moved up to county executive. In what appears to be a coordinated strategy, Panico requested that the county Department of Social Services not send money to landlords for rentals that do not have town permits. These permits require inspections, and Panico went as far as offering town inspectors to assist the county in making sure rentals are up to code.
