On May 2, 2023, Suffolk County Deputy Sheriffs from the Sheriff’s Proactive Impaired Driving Effort (SPIDRE) Team were honored at a Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) NYS Law Enforcement Recognition Event in Albany. In addition, Deputy Sheriff Damian Adams was honored for making the most DWI/DUI arrests for the Sheriff’s Office in 2022.

In the first three months of 2023, members of the SPIDRE Team have made nearly 50 DWI/DUI arrests. Seven of those defendants were charged with Aggravated DWI, which indicates a BAC of 0.18 and higher. In addition, they have also made 25 other arrests during DWI patrols, including four stolen/unauthorized use of vehicles, one outstanding warrant, and four counts of reckless driving.

The Sheriff’s Office SPIDRE Team is a grant funded unit that is comprised of specially trained Deputy Sheriff’s including Drug Recognition Experts. Since inception in 2015, SPIDRE has made over 1,000 drunk or drugged driving related arrests.

Is There a New Ace in Town?

The New York Mets have a new ace, and fantasy owners have been accustomed to viewing Freddy Peralta as a near-ace for some time. The move to a more pitcher-friendly park should help, but do not overreach, because the reality is that the lineup around him is roughly the same and the bullpen is likely worse at protecting his leads. Peralta has been a standout for years, and slotting him in as a high-value fantasy arm is easy. The question is just how high he should go.
