State and Local Leaders Honor New American Legion Officers

New York State Assemblyman Joe DeStefano and New York State Senator Dean Murray, and Suffolk County Legislator Dominick Thorne attended the New Officers Ceremony of the American Legion Post 269

The Post is located at the corner of South Ocean Avenue and Baker Street, right next to Village Hall. The building sits at the back of the Harry T. Hanson Veterans Memorial Park. The cornerstone of our building was laid in 1924.

“I am grateful to acknowledge the achievements of these dedicated people. I thank these individuals and Post 269 for living their motto of service to God and country and for their service to the people of our community,” said Assemblyman DeStefano.

Patchogue Post 269 applied for its charter on August 15, 1919 and the charter was approved on February 10, 1921. The Post was given the permanent official Charter on March 25th, 1921. The first Commander was Dr. Frank Overton.

The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest veterans service organization, committed to mentoring and sponsorship of youth programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting a strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.
