President Joe Biden will not run as the Democratic nominee for President of the United States, making the announcement by letter released on the social media platform "X," formerly known as Twitter.
For now, Biden will serve the remainder of his term as Commander in Chief. Following the announcement that he will not run for a second term, the soon-to-be one-term President endorsed his Vice President, Kamala Harris, to replace him as the Democratic nominee.
“And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” wrote President Biden in his letter.
Republicans are questioning whether Biden can continue serving as president if he is unable to run for office.
Elon Musk said on X, "My smartest friends, including those living in the San Francisco Bay Area who have been lifelong Dems, are excited about Trump/Vance. I believe in an America that maximizes individual freedom and merit," he wrote. "That used to be the Democratic Party, but now the pendulum has swung to the Republican Party."
Former President Donald Trump said on Truth Social, "Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve - And never was!” Trump wrote. “He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement. All those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn’t capable of being President, and he wasn’t.”
Vice-Presidential candidate, JD Vance, said, "If Joe Biden ends his reelection campaign, how can he justify remaining President? Not running for reelection would be a clear admission that President Trump was right all along about Biden not being mentally fit enough to serve as Commander-in-Chief. There is no middle ground.”
Minority Leader Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said in a statement, "For four years, the American people have faced historic inflation at home, chaos at the border, and weak leadership on the world stage. Our nation is less prosperous and less secure than it was in January 2021. We cannot afford four more years of failure."
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said, "At this unprecedented juncture in American history, we must be clear about what just happened. The Democrat Party forced the Democrat nominee off the ballot, just over 100 days before the election. (T)he self-proclaimed ‘party of democracy’ has proven exactly the opposite. The party’s prospects are no better now with Vice President Kamala Harris, who co-owns the disastrous policy failures of the Biden Administration. If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President. He must resign the office immediately. "
Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said, “Joe Biden has not only been a great president and a great legislative leader but he's a truly amazing human being. His decision, of course, was not easy, but he once again put his country, his party, and our future first. Joe, today shows you are a true patriot and great American.”
Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (NY-R) said, "If Joe Biden can't run for re-election, he is unable and unfit to serve as President of the United States. He must immediately resign."
Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY) said, "For the same reason Joe Biden is unfit to run, he is unfit to continue serving and should resign immediately. Make no mistake, whoever replaces Joe Biden on the ballot will push the same left-wing Democrat agenda that is destroying our country..."
New York State Conservative Party Chairman, Gerard Kassar, said, "The charade foisted on the country by irresponsible Democrats has come to an end. President Joe Biden should have stepped aside long ago, but he's finally done the right thing and we applaud him for that. We wish him well in his future endeavors."
NYS Senator Rob Ortt (R-62) said, "The Democratic Party has shown they will do anything to cling to power. They have silenced the voice of 14.6 million primary voters and forced Joe Biden off the Democratic ticket just weeks before the convention. If Joe Biden is unfit to run, then he is clearly unfit to serve as Commander and Chief.”

By any measure, he has advanced our founder's charge to build a more perfect union and his own stated goal of restoring the soul of our nation."
New York City Mayor Eric Adams commented, "America owes a debt of gratitude to President Joe Biden for his decades of service. He and his team took us out of COVID, stabilized the country, and restored the soul of the nation."
