Stereo Gardens – located at 9 Railroad Avenue in Patchogue — will open its doors to a stacked five-pack of Aragona’s Comedians on Friday—all set to deliver some good laughs for a greater cause.
John Butera hosts as local comedians Sean Morton, Bridget Kavanagh and Mike Keegan will perform ahead of featured headliner Chris Roach at September 27’s 8 p.m. show ($30 admission). Seating begins at 7 p.m.
Butera dabbled in broadcast radio before pursuing the restaurant business. After discovering a natural feel for stand-up while cracking wise as the live entertainment in his pizzeria joints, he entered a local contest and earned a spot at The New York Comedy Club.
Nowadays, Butera does a couple hundred shows a year along the East Coast. Of most note, he will often headline Mohegan Sun–and take with him to Atlantic City the winners of the comedy contests he regularly coordinates across Long Island.
Roach recently co-starred in the locally-shot “The Lady of Lake Ronkonkoma: The Legend of the Lake,” which premiered at the Sayville Theater back in August. He has performed at Gotham Comedy Club, Comic Strip Live NYC, The Borgata in Atlantic City, and The Paramount in Huntington.
A few years back, he opened for his “Kevin Can Wait” co-star, fellow Long Island-born funnyman Kevin James. He is also the creator of the 2-million-view viral ode to Ronkonkoma, a Beach Boys-flavored
spoof aptly entitled “Ronkonkomo.”
Sponsored in collaboration with RJG Consulting Group and Roger’s Desserts, the latest in Aragona’s multi-county spanning pop-up series’ focal mission is to raise donations for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s annual “Light the Night Walk,” and general awareness for sicknesses still in search of a cure.
Harry Chapin Lakeside Theater in Eisenhower Park of East Meadow is the site for the closest-proximity annual walk on Saturday, October 19, with festivities taking place from 5:30-8:30.
About “Light The Night”
“At The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night, we gather as a community to celebrate, honor, and remember those touched by blood cancers. Friends, families, schools, corporate teams, and sponsors join together to bring light to the darkness of cancer,” the organization’s event program reads.
“The funds raised by this community fund lifesaving research, advocacy and support for blood cancer patients and their families.” All registered participants who raise $100-plus on their individual fundraising page will receive a T-shirt at the walk. An additional fundraising milestone includes a long-sleeve shirt for those who raise $1,000.
