Global events planned for Dark Matter Day celebration

Martin Schoonen Associate Laboratory Director | Brookhaven National Laboratory

Each year, on and around October 31, particle physics laboratories, universities, and institutions globally come together to celebrate Dark Matter Day. This event invites the public to participate in both in-person and virtual activities that include talks and interactive sessions suitable for all ages.

Dark Matter Day is part of an international outreach initiative aimed at sharing insights into dark matter. The event highlights current knowledge about dark matter, the numerous experiments dedicated to solving this enigma, and emphasizes the importance of allocating scientific resources to explore this cosmic mystery.

"Members of the public are invited to join both in-person and virtual events that include talks, activities, and fun for all ages."

Media representatives looking for a 2024 Dark Matter Day event within their coverage area can find a list online. Additionally, institutions interested in hosting an event can find more information available.

To delve deeper into the subject of dark matter, individuals can listen to "Particle Mysteries: The Coldest Case," a podcast exploring the search for dark matter with new episodes releasing this October.

Dark Matter Day is sponsored by the Interactions Collaboration. This organization is an international community of particle physics communication specialists.
