Deputy Inspector Asturias joined the Auxiliary Police Department in 2015 as an Auxiliary Police Officer and rose through the ranks to Deputy Inspector in 2020 serving in the Seventh Precinct for the past decade. He was extremely proud to a volunteer and was consistently the unit's leader with volunteer hours and details worked each year. Auxiliary Police officers and SCPD officers knew Deputy Inspector Asturias could be counted on and he was always the person to keep everyone actively engaged in Auxiliary Police Program activities.
Hispanic Heritage History Lesson at Edith L. Slocum Elementary
Students in Dina Pinelli's fourth grade class at Edith L. Slocum Elementary School in the Connetquot Central School District celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by researching famous Hispanic people. The students learned about Pablo Picasso, Cesar Chavez, Oscar De La Hoya, Dolores Huerta, Celia Cruz, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Sonia Sotomayor and Frida Kahlo. On their Chromebooks, students filled out a graphic organizer with important and interesting facts about the person. They then took their notes and filled in a flag which they decorated colorfully. The flags were then attached together and hung outside the classroom for all to view.

Man sentenced for manslaughter after fatal New Year's Eve shooting
Detrich Emanuel, 31, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison with an additional five years of post-release supervision. This follows his guilty plea in August 2024 to Manslaughter in the First Degree for the fatal shooting of Kristine Costantino on New Year’s Eve in 2023. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the sentencing.
Miller Place man pleads guilty in fentanyl-related death and poisoning case
Robert Mauro, a 40-year-old resident of Miller Place, has pleaded guilty to charges related to the death of a Patchogue woman and the fentanyl poisoning of an infant. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced that Mauro admitted to Manslaughter in the Second Degree and Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance.

Ryszard Murawski, a 44-year-old resident of Lindenhurst, New York, has been sentenced to 22 years to life in prison for the murder of his wife, Wioleta Murawski. The sentence was handed down following his guilty plea to Murder in the Second Degree.
Bellport woman pleads guilty in hit-and-run case involving firefighter
Maria Guallpa-Bonilla, a 36-year-old resident of Bellport, has pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a fatal crash that occurred on June 10, 2024. The incident resulted in the death of Christopher Hlavaty, a 22-year-old volunteer firefighter from East Patchogue.
