Smithtown East Celebrates Class of 2026

2026 Graduation | Smithtown CSD

Smithtown High School East celebrated the graduation of the Class of 2026 during its commencement ceremony, marking the conclusion of the school year for the district's newest alumni.

The ceremony recognized the accomplishments of the graduating seniors as family members, friends, faculty and administrators gathered to celebrate the milestone.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Secaur congratulated the graduates and also acknowledged the role parents and guardians played throughout their educational journey.

"While this day is about you, please be sure to thank your parents and guardians for this is a great day for them as well," Secaur said. "They have made countless sacrifices to make this day a reality."

Principal Paul McNeil reflected on the accomplishments of the graduating class, citing their academic performance and participation in school activities. He encouraged graduates to carry a strong work ethic into the next stage of their lives.

"You matured into responsible young adults who set the bar for academic achievement and student conduct," McNeil said. "Your success is largely predicated on your work ethic. Put in the time and work harder than everyone else around you."

Senior Madeline McCullough, selected by her classmates as the ceremony's Honor Speaker, encouraged graduates to embrace new opportunities as they move beyond high school.

"As we sit here in our caps and gowns, it feels like everything is ending, but in reality we're just getting started," McCullough said. "The question now is, what are you going to do with it?"

Following the presentation of diplomas, graduates participated in the traditional turning of the tassels, officially becoming alumni of the Smithtown Central School District.

Smithtown High School East, located in St. James, serves approximately 1,300 students in grades 9 through 12 and is part of the Smithtown Central School District, one of Suffolk County's largest public school systems. The school consistently posts graduation rates well above the New York State average.
