The Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library will bring live music to the community this summer with a free four-part concert series at its Moriches Branch, located at 201 Montauk Highway in Moriches.
The Summer Concert Series will take place on four Monday evenings—July 6, July 20, August 3, and August 17—beginning at 6 p.m. All performances are free and open to the public. In the event of rain, concerts will be moved indoors to the library’s Main Building in Shirley.
The series opens July 6 with performances by The Hucksters and Rising Tide. The Hucksters blend original songs, folk, roots music, and familiar favorites with rich harmonies and an eclectic mix of instruments, while Rising Tide delivers classic rock, blues, and Grateful Dead-inspired jams.
On July 20, families can enjoy Darlene Graham & The Shades of Green Band, an interactive children’s concert featuring singing, dancing, movement, bubbles, and audience participation.
The Aug. 3 program showcases local talent with The Band Books, a library staff band making its debut, alongside Kool Spektrum, a Long Island rock group whose members are on the autism spectrum and perform throughout the region.
The series concludes Aug. 17 with an original music showcase presented in partnership with Ballpark Figure Booking. The lineup features Items, House Plants and Strawberry Blonde, highlighting emerging Long Island and New York-area artists performing indie, emo-pop, math rock and alternative rock.
Library Director Lonna Castro said the concerts are designed to bring residents together through shared cultural experiences and provide free entertainment for residents of all ages. “We are excited to use the Moriches Branch lawn as a welcoming outdoor space where families, neighbors and music lovers can enjoy free live performances close to home,” Castro said.
