Tom Theodorakis & Coach K | Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame

Ward Melville High School alumnus Tom Theodorakis continues to add to an impressive résumé, as the 2026 Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame inductee was recently named the 31st Director of Athletics at the United States Military Academy.

In his new role, Theodorakis oversees one of the nation's premier Division I athletic programs, which is dedicated to developing leaders through the Academy's core values of Duty, Honor and Country.

Under his leadership, Army captured the coveted Star Series championship over the United States Naval Academy for the first time in a decade and also claimed the Patriot League Presidents' Cup. He additionally oversaw the $170 million Michie Stadium Preservation Project and secured major partnerships with Nike, Learfield and Levy to enhance the experience for cadet-athletes and fans alike.

Theodorakis brings more than two decades of Division I experience as an administrator, coach and former student-athlete. Prior to joining Army, he held senior leadership positions at Harvard University, the University of Arizona, UCLA and the United States Air Force Academy.

A graduate of Syracuse University, Theodorakis was a member of the Orange's 2004 NCAA men's lacrosse national championship team. His athletic success, however, began much earlier on Long Island.

Before starring at Syracuse, Theodorakis was one of the top players at Ward Melville High School. He helped lead the Patriots to a New York State championship and earned All-America honors during his outstanding high school career.

His accomplishments have made him one of Suffolk County's most respected sports figures, and his induction into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame next year will further recognize his contributions both on and off the field.

From Ward Melville to West Point, Theodorakis has built a career centered around leadership, excellence and service, and he now takes over one of the most prestigious athletic departments in the country.

The Long Island native continues to make his alma mater and the entire Suffolk County sports community proud.
