After three decades of dedication to students and athletics, a true Sachem legend is calling it a career. Longtime teacher and coach Scott Dohrman is retiring after 30 years in the district, bringing an end to an extraordinary run that touched countless lives both on and off the playing field.

Throughout his career, Dohrman became a familiar face on fields, courts, and sidelines across the district. His commitment to student-athletes was unmatched, coaching an incredible 102 seasons spanning girls soccer, boys basketball, girls basketball, and softball. With the exception of seasons impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, he coached during every athletic season throughout his career, a remarkable testament to his passion for education and athletics.

His final game came this past Wednesday as Sagamore Middle School’s softball team took the field, marking the end of an era for one of the most respected coaches and educators in the Sachem community.

As he stood near the field during the opening inning, Dohrman reflected on the journey that has defined so much of his life.

“There’s no place else I’d rather be and nothing else I’d rather be doing,” he said. “It’s been a true blessing.”

While the wins and championships were certainly memorable, Dohrman’s greatest impact may have been the relationships he built with generations of students. Former players often credit him with helping them gain confidence, overcome challenges, and develop life lessons that extended far beyond sports. To many, he was more than a coach—he was a mentor, role model, and trusted supporter.

In recognition of his remarkable career, Sachem Athletic Directors Gary Beutel and Phil Torregrossa presented Dohrman with a commemorative plaque during his final game.

As he steps away from the sidelines, Dohrman leaves behind a legacy of leadership, dedication, and service that will continue to inspire the Sachem community for years to come.
