The Suffolk County Police Department will open its impound lot to the public as it hosts a vehicle auction featuring dozens of used cars and SUVs, offering residents a chance to purchase vehicles at competitive prices.

The auction is scheduled for April 25 at 9 a.m. at the department’s impound facility located at 100 Old Country Road in Westhampton. The event will be held rain or shine. Officials said approximately 90 vehicles will be available, including a mix of sedans and sport utility vehicles, each starting with a minimum bid of $500.

Prospective buyers will have multiple opportunities to inspect the vehicles ahead of time.

Public previews are scheduled for April 23 and April 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as for one hour prior to the start of the auction on the day of the event.

According to auction terms, all vehicles are sold “as is,” and all sales are final.

Payment must be made immediately following a successful bid. For purchases up to $2,000, full payment is required on the spot.

For higher bids, buyers must provide a nonrefundable deposit of $2,000 plus 25% of the remaining balance, with full payment due shortly after.

Accepted payment methods include certified bank checks.

Buyers are also required to be at least 18 years old and present valid government-issued identification to register.

Those purchasing under a business name must provide appropriate tax documentation at registration.

Officials noted that some vehicles may have damage, high mileage or salvage designations, and buyers assume responsibility for researching any potential liens. Vehicles must be removed from the property within one business week, or storage fees may apply.

The auction provides an opportunity for bargain hunters and car buyers alike, while also helping the department manage and clear its impound inventory.
