In 1992, the landing and cover-up of a UFO in Southaven Park was reported. Night turned into day, a cigar-shaped object fell from the heavens, and troops cordoned off the park, laying down “space blankets.”
I found out about this the other night when, trawling the Internet, I landed on one of those “weird stuff in…” websites. Do the residents of Shirley live next to an Area 51, or were they bystanders to some kind of military vehicle failure?
The website shows footage of the cigar-shaped object (or facsimile) and uniformed troops on patrol. Southaven Park is a campsite bordered on the south by Victory Avenue, paralleled by River Road, and bisected north/south by the Carmans River. Someone I know used to visit this space after dark to view wildlife through an infrared lens.
Why didn’t I hear anything about this? My parents were living in Shirley at the time, along William Floyd Parkway halfway toward the beach. Nothing.
If they salvaged an alien spacecraft and its crew, where was this stuff brought? Lots of rumors about Brookhaven National Lab have circulated. A friend of mine was married to one of their nuclear physicists, and another lived with his family down the block from my parents. One of these men developed cancer, and one of the wives was ill. My father also knew a female scientist who unsuccessfully tried to get me interested in the study of lichens.
Grumman was also mentioned. One theory said the “cigar-shaped object” was, in fact, a failed experiment. A late cousin of mine was on the team that developed the Stealth Bomber (now called the B2 after minor jiggering). We don’t build things that fall out of the air.
Will the real authors of this event please stand up? I recommend that, next time a little green man knocks on your door off River Road and says, “Take me to your leader,” you should send him directly to the news media.—Kathryn Nocerino
