Caracappa Honors District Leaders During March Events

Legislator Nick Caracappa and Lisa Mitnick | Suffolk County Legislature

Two taxpayers of Suffolk County’s Fourth Legislative District were recognized during March by Legislator Nick Caracappa for their contributions to the community, marking both Women’s History Month and Irish American Heritage celebrations.

As part of Women’s History Month, Caracappa named Centereach resident Lisa Mitnick as the district’s Woman of Distinction. Mitnick has built a record of service spanning education, business and civic organizations throughout the region.

She previously served as both vice president and president of the PTA at Holbrook Road Elementary School, where she worked with parents, teachers and administrators to support students and school programs. Her leadership extended beyond the classroom into the broader business community.

Mitnick currently serves as co-chair of the HIA-LI Membership Committee, helping lead outreach efforts with local businesses. She is also vice president of the Board of Trustees for the Middle Country Public Library and a board member of the Middle Country Public Library Foundation.

Her past roles include treasurer and board member of the Greater Middle Country Chamber of Commerce and co-business chairperson of the Smithtown Industry Advisory Board, reflecting her continued involvement in strengthening ties among schools, businesses and residents.

In a separate event at the H. Lee Dennison Building, Caracappa honored William Duffy as the district’s Irish American Person of Distinction. A Longwood High School graduate, Duffy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1989 and served through 1993, including during Operation Desert Storm.

Following his military service, he earned degrees from Stony Brook University and Hofstra University School of Law, later building a career in public service and law. Duffy currently serves as counsel to the Suffolk County Legislature and chief of staff to the presiding officer.

Caracappa praised both honorees for their dedication and ongoing contributions to the community and thanked them for their continued public service efforts.
