The Springtime Egg Hunt & Makers Festival will mark a new beginning at St. John Greek Orthodox Church in Blue Point as it welcomes all to experience crafts vendors and join an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, March 28.
“This is the church’s inaugural egg hunt. They’ve done egg hunts briefly but not to this scale,” said Monique Parsons, event producer and consultant with Stay Salted Inc.
This event reaches out to the community as well as Long Island businesses and serves as a fundraiser for the decades-old church already known for its Greek festival at 77 Montauk Highway.
The festival takes place, rain or shine, from 10 to 5 p.m. on church grounds, while the Easter bunny is available for visits from 11 to 2 p.m. There will be photo opportunities as well. While the festival is free, the egg hunt will cost $10 per child and requires a ticket.
For adults, the crafts fair is a chance to shop for basket stuffers, as well as spring décor and essentials.
“It’s a full-scale makers festival,” said Parsons. “We have a little over 50 vendors right now and more expected…. They’re all pretty talented vendors, so people will be in awe.”
Handcrafted items will abound, everything from crocheted apparel to toys and treats— “pretty much any baked product you could think of,” she said. Various food trucks will also satisfy cravings with traditional festival fare and more.
For the hunt, Parsons explained kids will be separated by age to give even wee ones a shot at gathering eggs, each stuffed with a goodie, like candy or a toy. Select eggs in each group will contain golden tickets for a “pretty cool chocolate bunny from the church” and entry into a raffle for a grand prize.
