Suffolk County Police have arrested a Riverhead man in connection with the death of his mother, whose body was discovered earlier this month in a wooded area in Manorville.

Curtis Trent Jr., 36, of 61 Forge Road, was arrested today following an investigation by Homicide Squad detectives. He has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Kathleen Harrison Trent, 63. Trent was scheduled to be arraigned later today at Riverhead Town Justice Court.

Police said Kathleen Harrison Trent, also of 61 Forge Road, had been reported missing to the Riverhead Town Police Department on Jan. 29. On Feb. 11 at approximately 3:21 p.m., Seventh Precinct patrol officers searching the area discovered the body of an adult woman in a wooded area on Connecticut Avenue, south of River Road, in Manorville.

The woman was later identified as Kathleen Harrison Trent. Authorities have said the cause of death remains under investigation and will be determined by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office. However, following a preliminary investigation, detectives said they believed the death to be criminal in nature.

The investigation led homicide detectives to charge Curtis Trent Jr. with murder.

Police have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the death.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
