Suffolk County Police have arrested a man after authorities said he fatally stabbed his estranged wife and then stabbed himself during a domestic incident at a Farmingville home.

Sixth Precinct officers responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance at 144 Granny Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered Adriana Barbosa and Marcos Leal inside the residence, both suffering from stab wounds. A teenage relative who was inside the home at the time of the attack was also injured during the violent episode, police said.

Barbosa, 46, was transported by emergency medical personnel to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later. Police said the teenage victim was also taken to Stony Brook University Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities did not release the teen’s age or relationship beyond identifying the individual as a relative who was present in the home.

Leal, 57, who police said stabbed himself following the attack, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. He remained hospitalized under medical supervision following the incident.

Homicide Squad detectives charged Leal with Murder in the Second Degree, Criminal Contempt in the First Degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Authorities did not immediately provide additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the stabbing or the specific nature of the criminal contempt charge.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to gather evidence and conduct interviews. Leal will be arraigned at a later date once he is medically cleared, according to officials.

The incident drew a significant police presence to the residential neighborhood as officers secured the scene and began their investigation into the fatal domestic violence case.
