Dear Editor:
With the Legislature back in session, residents of this state truly hope lawmakers actually do something productive rather than simply spend more of our money. Under one-party Democrat rule, things have gotten way out of hand.
Led by Gov. Hochul, Democrats spend as if there is a never-ending supply of taxpayer dollars. How can the government in Florida—which has 3.5 million more residents and no state income tax—spend $137 billion less each year than New York?
The answer is fraud. These extra billions are doled out to countless special interests and programs that do nothing to improve the quality of life for the rest of us. We just keep paying—the highest taxes and fees in the nation—while someone else gets the money. This has to stop.
What we are seeing in Minnesota—a corrupt system where an estimated $10 billion has been stolen from taxpayers—has nothing on New York. If we are paying $137 billion more per year than a state larger than ours, where do you think that money is going? Uncovering the fraud and abuse, by God knows who, in New York would be the accomplishment of a lifetime—if we can get Democrats and Gov. Hochul to take their hands out of the till.
Until then, New York will continue to lead the nation in out-migration, with people voting with their feet because they are fed up with the state’s tax-and-spend politicians. For those of us left to pick up the tab, Election Day rolls around in November. Do what you gotta do.—Desiree Glock, Centereach
Dear Editor:
Thank you for your coverage of EJ’s PJs and our efforts to help keep people warm. What started as a small operation on my front porch has grown into an organization that distributes thousands of warm pajamas to people who truly need them.
It is amazing to see the smiling faces of children and their families as they pick out a pair that is just right for them. Credit goes to our many sponsors and contributors, as well as the dedicated volunteers who help make EJ’s PJs such a success.
Long Islanders have generous and warm hearts, and thanks to them, that warmth spreads each winter through a plush pair of PJs to anyone in need.—Patricia Poggi, President, EJ’s PJs
