Sachem North secured the team championship at the Joe Davidson Memorial Wrestling Tournament, which took place on its home turf. The Arrows scored 426.5 points, distancing themselves from a field that included several of Suffolk County’s top wrestling programs. Sayville finished in second place with 323.5 points, while Sachem East came in third with 281 points. Brentwood and Kellenberg rounded out the top five with 236.5 and 235 points respectively.

Other schools competing in the tournament included Oceanside, William Floyd, MacArthur, Bayport-Blue Point, Eastport South Manor, Center Moriches, and Deer Park.

The annual event honors Joe Davidson, a Sachem alumnus and former coach. This year’s tournament featured numerous competitive matches and close finishes.

Sachem North's success was highlighted by standout performances in several final bouts. Jack Cusumano (138) pinned Brett Lennihan of Sayville in 3:16. Jake Fischer (150) defeated Brentwood’s Nathanael Bouquet with a score of 12–7. Thomas Vecchio (175) won by technical fall against Kellenberg’s Brendan Barkley, and Valdey Pierre (285) secured an 8–2 decision over Joshua Moshkovich from Oceanside.

Sachem East also had notable results on the championship stage. Sano Restrepo (103) achieved a pin in just 1:42, while Jon Schroff (165) narrowly beat Kellenberg’s Colin Regan with a score of 1–0.

With consistent performances across their lineup and important wins in key matches, Sachem North pulled ahead during the two-day event to claim victory before their home crowd.

Is There a New Ace in Town?

The New York Mets have a new ace, and fantasy owners have been accustomed to viewing Freddy Peralta as a near-ace for some time. The move to a more pitcher-friendly park should help, but do not overreach, because the reality is that the lineup around him is roughly the same and the bullpen is likely worse at protecting his leads. Peralta has been a standout for years, and slotting him in as a high-value fantasy arm is easy. The question is just how high he should go.
