The day after Christmas, Longwood High School hosted its Alumni Basketball Game at home, bringing together former student-athletes to celebrate the rich history and success of the program. The event honored past players who helped build the foundation of Longwood basketball and provided an opportunity for alumni, current players, and fans to reconnect through the game they all share.

The gym was filled with familiar faces as many former standouts returned to the court, showcasing that their love for the game remains strong. The atmosphere was festive and welcoming, with fans in the stands cheering on the alumni and enjoying a fun, competitive matchup. Players and spectators alike embraced the event as a meaningful way to reflect on the program’s tradition and lasting impact.

Following the success of the game, school officials announced their intention to make the Alumni Basketball Game an annual tradition. The Longwood Boys Basketball program expressed gratitude afterward, posting, “We want to thank everyone who came out to support our Alumni Game. It was fun to see how much talent we have in our basketball program.”

While alumni took center stage for the special event, the current varsity team continues to make noise on the court. Longwood is off to an impressive 5–1 start to the season, building momentum with strong performances on both ends of the floor. Just before the holiday break, the Lions defeated North Babylon in convincing fashion, pouring in an eye-catching 90 points in the victory.

The varsity squad will now look to keep that momentum rolling as they head back into action after the New Year. Next up is a road matchup against Comsewogue, which will begin a challenging stretch of four games in seven days. It will be a true test of depth, preparation, and resilience as Longwood continues its promising season.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
