Chloe Campbell and Savannah Pantry, both juniors at William Floyd High School, have been recognized by Newsday as two of the top 100 girls’ basketball players for the 2025-26 season. This marks the first time either student-athlete has received this honor in their high school careers. Both were also named All-Conference honorees for the 2024-25 season.

Campbell, who plays forward, was noted by Newsday for her averages of nine points, nine rebounds, and three blocks per game. The publication highlighted a standout performance where she recorded 21 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks. “Campbell can handle the ball, has great footwork, and an outstanding shooting touch,” according to Newsday.

William Floyd Colonials head coach Rich Sinclair commented on Campbell’s potential: “Chloe has soft hands, great balance and clean footwork with the ability to score inside and out. Her skills and size suggest that she will be a high-level basketball player with continued growth and development.” Campbell began the current season strongly with an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double in a win over North Babylon.

Pantry is also a forward and made an immediate impact during her first varsity season as a sophomore. Last year she led her team with averages of 11 points and 11 rebounds per game along with three steals per game. She achieved 11 double-doubles last season. Coach Sinclair described her as “an explosive athlete who is a terrific defender and rebounder.” In one of this season’s early games against Longwood, Pantry recorded a double-double with 14 points and 19 rebounds.

Coach Sinclair also mentioned freshman Taleah Coppola as another promising player for the program’s future. Coppola started as an eighth grader last year—averaging eight points, four assists, and three steals—and became the only eighth grader in Class AAA to earn All-League honors. So far this season she is averaging 17.3 points (top ten in Suffolk County), seven assists, and four steals per game. Coach Sinclair said Coppola is “an incredible athlete who makes other players around her better.”

The Colonials have started their season with five consecutive wins as they aim for their fifth straight playoff appearance. Their next game is scheduled against Riverhead in the annual Coaches vs. Cancer event.

William Floyd School District serves more than 9,400 students across ten schools from kindergarten through twelfth grade on Long Island’s south shore according to its official website. The district provides comprehensive educational opportunities including athletics such as basketball and offers programs that foster student development across academic and extracurricular areas.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
